Firefox, Cache Updates

So maybe you will get a tip out of me yet.

I noticed that the newest version of Firefox (highly recommended by the way) is not always checking pages before using the copy in the cache. What does this mean? It means that when a site is updated (such as this blog), which Firefox has not yet decided should be out of date, you are missing some content. This setup saves bandwidth, but annoys me.

Here is the fix:

Open up firefox and go to about:config
Put
browser.cache.check_doc_frequency

In the Filter box
you should see the browser.cache.check_doc_frequency entry listed below. Double click it, and change the value from the default of 3 to 1 which will cause Firefox to check the cache each time you visit a page.

Just for fun, try going to about:mozilla too ;) Try it on other browsers/other versions of Mozilla/Netscape, you may get different results.
