Its almost the New Year (Here in North America anyway) and lots of sites are having some festive articles, enjoy:

Apparently Philips is replacing the Times Square (NY) New Year's ball which is currently lit by halogen bulbs with one that uses LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes) and Auctioning the old bulbs on Ebay (From a Treehugger post). Unfortunately the Philips website requires flash 8 (which doesn't exist yet for Linux) so I haven't been able to get the whole story. The Philips New Year website is here.
The NY Times has a Top 10 roundup of the year's best gadgets (Also Posted on Slashdot)
